About Us

Our Purpose

Ashbourne Community Transport (ACT) has provided affordable, accessible transport in Ashbourne and its surrounding areas for over 25 years.

ACT is a registered charity which aims to support independent living and reduce social exclusion and rural isolation for all – whether young or old – by providing safe and reliable transport from your door to a destination of your choice.  Your journey can be to work, school/college, to access essential services and shops in your nearest market town or for any social or leisure purpose.

ACT’s services are available to those who do not have access to a car, cannot use mainstream public transport because of disability or mobility issues, or because no such service exists (as is the case in much of our rural area).

Our commercial trading company, the 'Ashbourne Little Bus Company' – which is a wholly owned subsidiary of ACT, can provide transport for the whole community. The transport is avaiable for any resident, business or organisation. It operates as a social enterprise with any surplus from its operations reinvested in ACT to support the Charity and its wider services.

Our Operation

We run a fleet of accessible 9-16 seat mini-buses and currently operate in Ashbourne and Leek and across the Southern Derbyshire Dales, Southern Peak District, East Staffordshire and Staffordshire Moorlands.

In the Autumn 2017 we extended our operating area to cover the Northern Derbyshire Dales, High Peak and South Derbyshire, with destinations including Buxton, Matlock, Derby, Uttoxeter, Swadlincote and Burton

ACT is run by a Board of Trustees and our services are delivered by a dedicated team of drivers and administrative staff from our offices in Ashbourne. We also have operating centres at Warslow (Staffordshire Moorlands), Buxton and Swadlincote.

Our Trustees, all volunteers, bring a range of business and management experience from the public, private and voluntary sectors. We are supported by volunteer drivers and fund raisers from across the local community.
